Payal and Pratik – Wedding

On Saturday we were honored to have the opportunity to photograph our first traditional Indian wedding. We walked into the day with a basic understanding of the itinerary and a determination for readiness, as well as a bit of trepidation and excitement all wrapped up in each footstep. We couldn’t have anticipated the full amount of emotion, energy, respect, and tradition present in each celebration. Always conscientious not to be intrusive and distract from the ceremony, one gentleman kindly assured us that we had 100% access — evidence of their high respect for the importance of documenting the day’s customs. In fact, at one point during the ceremony Mike had removed his shoes and stood up on the altar with the family for a clearer view! We had hundreds of extra eyes that day, ushering us to the center of the action, or simply pointing out a photo op that we hadn’t seen. And the dancing, oh the dancing! Energy of the young and old alike filled the space, all trying to pay respect to the bride and groom — truly the main feature of the entire day. Thank you, Payal and Pratik, for allowing us to photograph your very special day. (This was written by my wife and co-shooter, Kari.  She’s better with words than I am!)
